The Hon. John Carey, Minister for Housing (WA), Media Release, 10 March 2023

The State Government has announced the completion of five newly constructed dwellings in Broome which will house government workers servicing the Kimberley area.

The McGowan Government has partnered with Eco Structures, who have constructed the five homes through the Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) Program, and leveraged the capacity of local businesses to meet the demand.

The homes will add to the supply of housing in the region.

The properties will house employees from the Departments of Education and Primary Industries and Regional Development to ensure delivery of essential government services in Broome.

Additional funding has been allocated through the GROH program for nine new homes to be constructed in 2023.

These homes will house government officers from the WA Police, Department of Justice, and Department of Education.

The GROH program provides housing for government workers such as teachers and police in regional locations to ensure essential services can be delivered across WA.

Comments attributed to Housing Minister John Carey:

“The homes are being built under the McGowan Government’s Regional Officer Housing (GROH) program that provides housing to government workers in regional areas to ensure vital services can be delivered.

“We have committed $200 million to government regional officer housing over the next four years.

“It’s essential for regional and community development that we retain and attract government workers to ensure that everyone in Western Australian has access to essential services.

“The GROH program currently provides homes for more than 5,000 essential State Government workers throughout regional WA.”

Comments attributed to Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:

“The McGowan Government is continuing its delivery of GROH homes to entice skilled workers to live and work across our regions – in particular the Kimberley.

“This is a welcome boost to the local community and it’s great to see five new homes constructed in Broome, with a further nine now under construction.”
