Tyrendarra P&A Show

The Tyrendarra P&A Show will be running on Saturday 11 February and this year celebrating the 105 years.  Again, it will be an amazing show full of entertainment and competitions for the whole family.

For the kids and the young at heart we have the Animal Nursery, Circus Elements, Face Painting, Julie Honey and her performing dogs and Wicked Wildlife providing entertainment throughout the day.

If you get bored with that we have the horse, show jumping, cattle, sheep, poultry and the show and shine vehicles to look at plus all the pavilions.

We have our every popular Pet Competition running at 11am on the Green in front of the hall.  It is open to all and is free to enter with entries on the day with categories for all sorts of pets, from the Champion Dog Food Eating Dog, or the Pet Most Likely to Scare Grandmothers to the Best Fancy Dressed Pet and Owner.

In the Cookery pavilion the battle for the Best Shortbread will again be happening. Will it be Heather Curran again this year or will Erica Mather make a comeback, or could it be a complete newbie who takes out this hotly contested competition?

If you have a green thumb, then maybe you would like to enter the Farm and Garden section. We have a class to fit any vegetable you can grow including the Heaviest Zucchini class.  The Best Chicken Eggs and Sweetest Honey classes are also popular. And if you have a scarecrow protecting your patch why not enter it in the Scarecrow section?

Fingers crossed the weather is good for flowers this year and make sure you come and check the Cut Flower section out, the colour and form of the flowers our locals grow will astound you.  If you are a budding florist or have a junior florist, make sure to enter your creations in the Floral Art section, from a Modern Massed arrangement to Flowers in a Teacup, there are many classes for your creativity.

The classes that every local should be entering this year are in the Historical section with the theme this year being Tyrendarra & Surrounding Districts, with classes for local school and local farms including articles, maps and tools. There’s Natural Landscape, Tyrendarra Show, Local General Stores, Local Sport, Early Churches, World Wars, Whaling and Fishing and Miscellaneous. Wonder if any hidden gems will turn up!

If that’s not enough, don’t forget the Fancy Work, Art, Photography, Home Brew, Craft Work, Lego and Wool sections.  We also have market and food stalls, or you can head to the brick pavilion and support the Tyrendarra Cricket/Tennis Club by buying your lunch.

If you still want more after your big day at the show on Saturday, we have the Stockman’s Challenge running on Sunday, part of “The Tack Room Super Series of Challenges” which encompasses challenges in Heywood, Tyrendarra, Horsham, Glenfield and Harrow. The Stockman’s Challenge is an individual competition where horse and rider negotiate an obstacle course which may  include ramps, small jumps, gates to open and close, picking up and carrying objects, water courses, seesaws and whip cracking. The action starts at 8.30am and goes into the early afternoon.  It is free enter to the showground on Sunday.

Tickets for the Show are Adults $12, Pensioners $6 (Card must be produced) with children under 14 free thanks to the Victorian Government COVID recovery funding.
