Beneath clear skies and amidst perfect summer conditions at Whiting Beach, 440 competitors put their stamina, strength, and endurance to the test on December 3 and 4, when they participated in the 2022 Yamba Triathlon.

A popular local multisport competition which consists of swimming, cycling, and running over various distances, the event attracted triathletes from across the country and was the second feature listed on the NSW North Coast Triathlon League Series calendar following the 2022 Kingscliff Triathlon which was held last month.

Describing the 2022 Yamba Triathlon as one of the best he’s seen, organiser Darren Adams from the Yamba Triathlon Club, said the weekend was a great success for all involved.

“We were really pleased with the number of competitors this year, and everyone enjoyed the event,” he said.

“The community and the local businesses really get behind it as well, and they’ve all been really supportive of the triathlon, which is now in its tenth year, and a lot of them donated prizes for the event too.

“The triathlon brings a lot of visitors to Yamba, and it’s a big plus for the town.

“It was great to see so many people come together on the weekend, and we’re all looking ahead to 2023 when we can host the event again.”

Clarence Valley triathlete Lindsey Wall, who has enjoyed success at previous Yamba Triathlons, won the Open Men’s Division with an overall time of 1:00:57, from Coffs Harbour competitor Isaiah Koopmans, who finished less than two minutes behind.

Danielle de Francesco won the Open Women’s Division, stopping the clock at 1:03:09.

The next generation of champion triathletes also demonstrated their ability in the Kids Triathlon, which was won by Reef Ives in a time of 12:45.

Event organisers gratefully acknowledged First National Yamba, Bowlo Sports and Leisure Yamba, McDonalds Yamba, Swift Multisport, the Yamba Community Pool, Clarence Valley Council (CVC), and Amazing Glazing, along with NX Sports, for sponsoring the 2022 Yamba Triathlon.

The Yamba Triathlon Club are looking forward to hosting their final event of the year at the Yamba Community Pool from 7am on December 11.
