Allora Swimming Club new season commences

Recent stories

Success for Allora Swim Team

The children of the Allora Swimming Club were delighted to return to their home pool in November to commence their new season of swimming.

While club nights had a delayed start due to the pool closure, our swimmers were certainly preparing themselves as best they could with squad sessions and carnival entries despite the lack of pool access.

Allora Swim Team members have already competed in the Winter Short Course Championships, Fairholme Time and Technique Meet, Turbo Jets Spring Carnival, Toowoomba Open and a weekend out West for the Chinchilla and Dalby Open meets.

The Darling Downs swimming calendar is extensive and provides many opportunities for swimmers of all abilities to enjoy regular competition across the region.

Our first Club Night allowed for the presentation of our Swimming Australia JX Awards. These caps are presented to swimmers aged 9 to 13 years who achieved benchmarked times during competitive meets swum during the previous season.

This year we had a total of 24 swimmers achieve JX levels, the highest number we have ever achieved as a Club.

The highlight of our local swimming calendar is the Allora Rotary Carnival being hosted by our club at the Allora Pool this Sunday 20th November.

We have received an astounding 202 nominations for our meet, the largest attendance at this carnival in many years. With a long history, this meet will again see some outstanding racing from children from across the Darling Downs and South West region.

In 2022, our club introduced the Seamus Ryan Memorial Breaststroke Handicap Swim, to be held annually at this meet in honour of our beloved team mate and champion swimmer who tragically passed in 2022.

This drawcard event captivated audiences in its maiden year and will be a feature event of our program on Sunday. Swimming will commence at 9am and continue until mid-afternoon.

Life Members, Friends and supporters of the club are invited to attend. A BBQ and canteen will operate throughout the day and we would appreciate any support given.

We thank our local sponsors who enable this great event to happen, bigger and better every year. We will acknowledge all who contributed in our news next week!
