Birdsville Big Red Bash, Media Release, 20 June 2022

The world’s most remote music festival – the Birdsville Big Red Bash – is set to return in just over two weeks (July 5-7), drawing more than 9,000 festivalgoers to the remote red sands of Queensland’s Simpson Desert for an epic line-up of outback entertainment and live Australian music acts including Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins, Kasey Chambers, Kate Ceberano, Shannon Noll and many more.

Taking place over three bumper days and nights during the winter school holidays, the all-ages and dog-camping festival is staged against the striking backdrop of the legendary 40-metre-high Big Red sand dunes.

Each year, the Birdsville Big Red Bash hosts a Bashville Drags race, Fashions in the Desert and Nutbush City Limits World Record attempt to raise much-needed funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

The festival’s July music bill features an all-star roster of Australian rock, blues and country music icons including Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins. Kasey Chambers, Jon Stevens, Kate Ceberano, Richard Clapton, The Rolling Stones Review Starring: Adalita, Tex Perkins & Tim Rogers, Bjorn Again, Sarah McLeod, Mark Gable, Ash Grunwald, Jack Jones, Dragon, Mick Thomas (Wedding Parties Anything), Mi-Sex, Chocolate Starfish, Steve Balbi, The Lachy Doley Group, Bachelor Girl, Mel Dyer and more.

The all-ages dog-friendly festival will also offer a bumper program of outback entertainment and activities including Doggie Desert Fashions competitions, dunny door painting, Outback Air Guitar Championships, sand dune surfing, sunrise yoga, camel rides, scenic helicopter flights, outdoor cinema screenings, beach volleyball, daytime bands and performers, plus the much-loved Nutbush City Limits World Record attempt and RFDS Bashville Drags & Fashions in the Desert.
