The Narrandera Rod Run, which took place over the Easter weekend, seems to be getting bigger and better each year.

This year’s event proved to be a huge success with almost 500 vehicles involved.

There were 398 entrants, plus 100 day-trip cars on Easter Sunday.

The Rod Run’s main trophy winners were:

• Top Hot Rod: Darren Cahill’s 1934 ford Coupe

• Top Custom: Mick Silke’s 1959 Cadallic

• Top Ride: Glenn Chidgey’s 1941 Ford Pickup

• Top Kruiser: Matt De sprint’s 1954 Ford Customline

• Young Rodder: Cameron Jones’ 1959 Edsel

One of the event organisers Steven Alldrick said one of the highlights was the Saturday night cruise along the main street which attracted a huge crowd.

”What a fantastic night, well done to all our entrants,” he said.

”What a great turnout and thank you to all the public that turned out to watch.”

Narrandera Shire Councillor Sue Ruffles was one of many spectators who was impressed with the vehicles on show.

”I couldn’t pick a most fave car at this year’s Narrandera Rod and Custom Run, but the green paint jobs attracted my attention,” she said.

Can Assist were also the big winners, with $5902.50 being raised at the Show ‘n Shine event and through donations.

”We all had a great weekend, the show and shine was a huge success,” Mr Alldrick said.

”We had 500 cars in attendance in total, with just over 100 extra cars on the day.

”The ladies enjoyed a relaxing morning/afternoon at Sew Fab making projects, eating a delicious food hamper and wine tasting – thank you to Leanne and the team for hosting this.

”We did a river run and cruised to the Malt House at Whitton.”

Mr Alldrick praised the backing of Narrandera’s locals.

“Thank you to the town of Narrandera and Narrandera Council for having us and supporting this event,” he said.

”A big thank you to all of our sponsors for once again supporting our event; we really appreciate it.

”Thank you to everyone who lent a hand to set up, pack up, serve meals and all of the local Narrandera people who assisted us.

”Also, a big thank you to the Narrandera Auto Club for their donation towards the hire of our marquee.”

Albury Street Rodders also deserve a special mention for cooking a full hot breakfast on Saturday.

Much dedication and commitment to ensure this year’s event was conducted successfully has paid off for the organisers.

To ensure the event retains its appeal, event organisers will soon start planning for next year’s Rod Run.

Mr Alldrick said the organisers would have a rest for a month then begin preparations for next year’s gathering.
