The Guildford Grumpies are making a name for themselves with their incredible level of community support activities in Guildford and surrounding areas.

The club, which was established more than 10 years ago by co-founder Mr Peter Turner, has just recently funded basic school fees and uniforms, with the support of the Guildford Progress Association, for students at the now re-opened Guildford Primary school, which had been closed for the past few years.

The Grumpies have also recently funded the past Apexians of Castlemaine annual Santa Christmas run to villages and smaller communities in the area on Christmas Day.

The club, which began with just 12 members, has now grown substantially, with over 120 people involved in the Grumpies. They have a very active Social Club, which meets weekly, along with the club’s Men’s Shed Program, conducted weekly on a Tuesday at the Grumpies Clubhouse ‘The Grumpy Garage’.

Of course, the Grumpies have also established a very successful Car Club that is set to pay tribute to founding member Peter Turner at John Powell Reserve in Guildford on Sunday, 27 March.

Peter was tragically killed in a car accident in June 2020, but through the pandemic and its restrictions, the club has not had the chance to say goodbye to their much loved ‘Cobber’.

The Peter Turner memorial Show and Shine will allow the Grumpies and visitors to pay their respects to their cherished former President. The Show and Shine will feature a huge range of veteran and vintage cars and motorbikes, along with an array of community stalls, live bands, displays and raffles. Many of the entrants at the Show and Shine had a lot to do with Mr Turner, who was a widely respected engineer in motoring circles, and there will be a memorial and tribute at 1.30pm on Sunday, featuring two of Mr Turner’s outstanding racing cars, which will be featured during the day’s activities.

Entrance for the general public is $5 adults and under 16 are admitted free. Gates will open at 9am, and the club is encouraging people to come along and enjoy the wealth of interesting items available, and all funds raised on the gates will be used by the Grumpies to assist in their community endeavours.
