Over 60 businesses have now registered to be part of the three-year program that’s supported by Rio Tinto as well as GWN7, Midwest Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mitchell and Brown and the Rigters IGA Group.

And many more businesses are continuing to sign up every day.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn encouraged the community to get behind the initiative.

“It’s great to see businesses jump at the opportunity to be part of the Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Card program that promotes spending locally,” he said.

“Christmas is quickly approaching and the gift cards make for the perfect present.

“The same goes for corporates. The Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Cards make great festive rewards for staff, with amounts of $10 to $1,000 available.”

The Buy Local Greater Geraldton Gift Cards are an EFTPOS based community gift card that promotes spending in Geraldton, so money stays in the community and contributes to economic growth.

To participate in the program, businesses need to be locally owned and operated or be a locally owned franchise. There is no cost for a qualifying business to sign up and be involved.

Consumers can purchase the gift cards from the Rigters IGA Group as well as Mitchell and Brown, and redeem from participating stores.
