Golf took off during the pandemic.
Casino Golf Club manager Andrew Porter said the social distancing aspects of the game made it one of the few sports people could play during covid.

And a club like Casino was affordable, he said.
The club has invested in the grounds and bought back the pro shop so it is now run in-house and is offering free workshops for beginners with golf professionals Jim Kennedy and Shane O’Brien. Jim teaches juniors and all skill levels.
“We want to change the paradigm around golf. People think golf is difficult but with the right instruction, it’s easy to learn,” he said.
Jim taught golf in Germany and Austria for 10 years and has played the European Challenge Tour.
“Having travelled the world, I’ve learnt from leading golf professionals.
“I’ve also learnt from beginners on how to simplify the game.”
The club will run free workshops for beginners. The women’s short game clinic on July 16 is booked out already.
Anyone wanting to participate in the next beginner’s clinic on July 17 can phone the pro shop on 6662 8333.
