The Cunnamulla Library’s First 5 Forever program is unfolding out the library doors, for the first Under 5’s Easter Fair event on Thursday 8 April.

First 5 Forever is a statewide program that provides strong early literacy foundations for all Queensland children aged 0-5 years.

Paroo Shire Mayor, Cr Suzette Beresford said that Council is hopeful that the event will attract families who aren’t currently attending the regular First 5 Forever programs such as Monday Music & Playtime.

“Our children are our future and engaging children in reading and storytelling is so important to develop their reading and communication skills,” Cr Beresford said.

“By bringing the library to them through this fun and interactive event, Council is eager to engage the children in a new way and get them coming to programs at the library in the future.”

Previously held indoors, this first outreach event will include musical entertainment from the Fabulous Lemon Drops, the opportunity for eligible library members to have their photo taken with their favourite storybook princesses, an Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Tammy Hickey who runs Paroo Shire Council’s library programs said that there’s never been anyone like the Storytime Princesses appear in Cunnamulla before.

“Library members who have been loaning out two books a week until the 1 April will be able to have photos taken with Moana, Cinderella, Elsa, Anna and Snow White,” Tammy said.

“It’s been a great incentive for the kids to loan more books out from the library, and it will be very exciting to have these lifelike characters appear off the pages of the kids’ favourite fairytales.”

The Under 5’s Easter Fair is on Thursday 8 April from 9am – 12pm in Centenary Park (Garden and Jane streets, Cunnamulla). For more information about the event, contact the library on 07 4655 8490.

Paroo Shire Council would like to thank the State Library of Queensland, CACH and KEYS for making the event possible.
