Dog trials are on again at Yanac

The timing of the Yanac Yard Dog trials has changed and now will be held on Saturday 21st September. The Yanac locals in conjunction with the Yanac Hockey Club will get busy and put on the Yanac Yard Dog Trials. Dog trialling commenced at Yanac in 1992 and this year will be the 29th dog trial. A great effort for a small community.

Working dogs make their trials undercover as championships wrap up

For three days, working dogs and their owners competed for a prize pool of $18,000 at the state titles at Casino Showgrounds. The NSW Working Stock Dog State Championships ... Organiser Ben Gould said it was the first time the event had been held at the new undercover arena at the showgrounds.

A woolly good weekend in Barmera

The Barmera Sheep Dog Trials concluded on Sunday, with “particularly good crowds” over the weekend. Around 40 dogs competed over the five days, with 440 sheep coming from around the Riverland ... Highlights over the five days included the iconic ‘Running of the Sheep’ event down Barwell Avenue

Hometown handler tastes victory in Henty sheep dog trial

A new Henty resident made the Three Sheep Trial his own at the Henty Machinery Field Days, taking out the tough event against the cream of the nation’s best trialers. Paul Elliott and his Border Collie Elliott’s Brisket scored 188 points to win the trial from John Perry, Bredbo, and Boco Raffa on 183 points under judge Ken Robinson, Quirindi, NSW.

Alyssa musters the courage to take on the adults at the dog trials

Alyssa Brown and Magpie run around the Bonalbo Showgrounds enjoying their game of chasey. The Brown family are used to being on the road travelling to dog trials. Alyssa, her brother Nathan and their father Phil competed in the NSW Working Stock Dog Association State Championship trials at Bonalbo.

How much is that doggie in the window? Try $33,000 for this working dog

A border collie that is “the whole package” sold for a record $33,000 at a dog sale in Rockhampton last week. Cabra Glebe Sid is 21 months old and was bred and trained by Joe  Leven from Doubtful Creek.

Sheep dogs on trial

The Moulamein sheep dog trials has returned showcasing the incredible bond of human and working dog. Barry McKenzie, Moulamein Working Dog Club president, had four dogs – two mature dogs and two pups – in the competition and was delighted to have the competition running again.

Dogs wait for their departed master, Robert Johnston

Robert Johnston’s dogs wait for their master’s call – all 20 of them. Every afternoon, Robert would take the dogs on a run across the paddocks of his Tatham property. He’d be on the quad bike and the dogs would run behind, tongues hanging out as they followed their master ... The dogs are waiting for their run. Waiting for Robert. There’s no way to tell them he isn’t coming.
