Fungicide resistance detected in Qld barley

Early knowledge could be the key to keeping Queensland’s barley crops thriving according to research by University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Centre for Crop Health Senior Research Fellow Dr Noel Knight. Dr Knight has been conducting research monitoring for fungicide-resistant diseases in barley plants across southern Queensland, and the results have shown resistance is more common in Queensland than growers might have suspected.

Local artist to be showcased

Top Camp’s Damian McAleer is taking part in the first ever Toowoomba Studio Art Trail, a celebration of local artists that will take place over the four weekends of September. In just five years, Damian has transformed from someone who hadn’t picked up a paint brush since his youth to someone running out of space in his house for all his paintings.

Shaunn Jannusch of Westbrook was awarded Supreme Grand Champion Fowl of the 2023 Royal Brisbane Exhibition Show, out of 1417 entries. He was awarded Grand Champion Waterfowl, Champion Heavy Waterfowl and Champion Pekin with his Pekin Duck.

Sprints keep little Leyburn on the map

When the 27th Historic Leyburn Sprints hits the streets this weekend, it will be thanks to the efforts of local residents to keep their historic little town on the map. The Commonwealth fraternity lives on through our firefighters, with a contingent of Queensland fires including Steve Benecke from the Cambooya Rural Fire Brigade (RFB) recently travelling to Canada to assist in firefighting.
