The Department of Main Roads and Transport has extended the initial community consultation period for feedback on the proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor.
The initial round of community consultation has been extended to the 13th of October.
TMR also scheduled additional feedback sessions in Toowoomba and at Westbrook, but these concluded yesterday (Wednesday 6th September.) The Department says it is planning for the Toowoomba transport network of tomorrow to address the predicted rise in traffic congestion through the city centre and improve road safety as the city grows.
It says the Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor strategic planning project has identified a need to connect future residential and employment growth areas while addressing emerging freight needs with the protection of a future transport corridor.
TMR has predicted that total investment for the project would be in the region of $2.52 million.
It points out that currently there is no funding for construction of the proposed transport corridor and the project is in initial consultation phase only.
TMR says initial technical investigations identified several potential routes and possible interchange locations.
The preferred route was chosen based on its potential to make connections between current and future residential areas, commercial and industrial developments, and community facilities such as the proposed Toowoomba Regional Sports Precinct.
It believes the proposed transport corridor minimises the impact on community infrastructure and local roads as much as possible.
