Nhill College welcomed their new Foundation students on Thursday pictured with Mrs Grover and Mrs Kerber.

A visit to the beach is not something that happens everyday for many of the young people in West Wimmera. For most it is around a 2 hour drive to the nearest beach.

Despite the Salvation Army closing its doors in Kaniva, Pastor Sam Faavae is leasing the Church on a monthly basis until its eventual sale ... So far 25 people from Kaniva, Serviceton, Bordertown and Nhill have been attending the church.

Australia Day started early in Hindmarsh Shire on Friday 26 January 2024, commencing with a BBQ breakfast in Rainbow at 7:30am, followed by ceremonies in Jeparit, Dimboola, and finally Nhill. Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland, attended all four events on the day where he addressed the crowd and presented Hindmarsh Shire’s 2024 Australia Day Awards.

For the first time in many years, a fire observing aircraft will be situated for the next month in the Wimmera due to the alleviated fire risk during this time. Aircraft are strategically positioned across the State depending on risk, and while this area has had aircraft in place when required, Horsham aerodrome will now have a fire observing aircraft fulltime, for at least the next 30 days.

Last Wednesday saw a mammoth amount of rainfall and winds across the district including Yanac, Diapur and Boyeo. Brett Wheaton at Yanac South measured 86mm and said there was a lot of flooding, including Yanac Creek and the swamp was filled.
