Kaniva Women Premiers 2024

The highly anticipated women’s hockey grand final between Kaniva Women and Yanac Women ended in a thrilling contest, showcasing the best of skill, determination, and teamwork. Both teams, who have had a strong season, met on the synthetic turf field in Dimboola for what would be an intense and closely contested game.

Yanac Premiers

Another chapter was written for one of the Wimmera’s longest-running sporting dynasties with the Yanac Tigers winning their twenty-first premiership in the thirty-five seasons of the competition, defeating long-time rival, the Warrack Hoops. The Tigers started strongly, with Todd Alexander converting a penalty corner midway through the first quarter to put the reigning premiers in the lead, and in a worrying sign for the challengers, their key midfielder Tim Jorgensen left the field minutes later, struggling with a hamstring injury.

Nhill’s “Inspector Of Nuisances”

The delightfully named inspector was responsible for keeping Nhill clean, which was a thankless and almost impossible task over four decades from the town’s establishment in 1880 ... It was not a job for the faint hearted so the obvious choice for the first Inspector of Nuisances in Nhill was the local policeman and for him it was handy pocket money as a part time job.

Pizza, positivity and passion were the order of the night at Little Guys Pizza ... Thirteen young women involved in Agriculture in a variety of roles spoke to a packed audience about their agricultural careers thus far. The night started off with guest speaker Kate Maddern, who has a long list of accolades...

What is happening at the gallery, well I will tell you. Our Paint a Skateboard Exhibition has opened. This exhibition has an absolute wow about it, so many different ways to make a deck look fantastic.

Rob Gersch to stand down

Hindmarsh Shire Councillor and OAM recipient Rob Gersch has announced that he will not be standing for re-election in October, marking the end of an almost 40-year tenure representing the Hindmarsh Shire ... “While local government was not a priority when I was first asked to stand, it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made.”

Tigers win thriller

The Tigers secured a famous victory against Horsham in Sunday's Elimination Final, clinching the win in extra time at Central Park in Stawell by 7 points.

Dog trials are on again at Yanac

The timing of the Yanac Yard Dog trials has changed and now will be held on Saturday 21st September. The Yanac locals in conjunction with the Yanac Hockey Club will get busy and put on the Yanac Yard Dog Trials. Dog trialling commenced at Yanac in 1992 and this year will be the 29th dog trial. A great effort for a small community.
