The 116th Corryong Show proved once again to be a highlight on the Upper Murray calendar, drawing a strong crowd on Saturday and showcasing the best of local agriculture, entertainment, and community spirit.
The event also included the Upper Murray Machinery Club rally which has only added to the spectacle.
From 3pm the Corryong Recreation Reserve came alive with the colour and energy of market stalls, animal competitions and family-friendly attractions.
This year, the Corryong Show Committee worked hard to expand the program, and the response from both locals and visitors was overwhelmingly positive.
The pavilion brimmed with creativity with close to 1300 entries in baking, preserves, photography, crafts and floral sections. Judges praised the high standard across all age groups.
In the arena, spectators were treated to the bush gymkhana with a mini challenge. The ever-popular dog high jump also drew a big crowd.
The novelty events also brought plenty of laughs and competition.
The Cow Pat Lotto jackpot of $720 went to Ruby Klippel with number 8 while the Guess the Weight contest was won by Brad Jarvis, who came within three kilograms of the correct steer weight of 467kg.
A new highlight this year was the involvement of the Corryong Historic Machinery Club, which showcased a fine collection of restored tractors, engines and vintage farming equipment. Their display not only drew the attention of machinery enthusiasts but also offered younger generations a fascinating glimpse into the region’s agricultural heritage.
The showgrounds buzzed throughout the afternoon and into the evening with music, showbags and the increasingly popular horse vs motorbike events keeping families entertained.
Market stallholders also reported steady trade. The whole township was treated to a spectacular display of fireworks, which seems to get better year after year!
Show president, Evan Nicholas, said the committee was thrilled with the turnout.
“The Corryong Show has always been about bringing the community together and this year really showed the strength of that tradition,” he said.
“We’re grateful to all our exhibitors, competitors, volunteers and sponsors who made the 116th Show such a success.”
As the sun set on the day, it was clear the Corryong Show continues to grow while holding firmly to its country roots.
Plans are already underway for next year’s event, ensuring the show remains a much-loved celebration of the Upper Murray community.
