Somerset Regional Council, Media Release, 14 July 2025

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail was a buzz of excitement on Sunday morning, 13 July with perfect weather and record numbers at the 22nd annual Somerset Rail Trail Classic.

Somerset Regional Council’s 2025 event broke the 2021 record with 978 registrations across categories – the 3km and 8km walk or run, and the 20km and 44km bike rides.

Somerset Councillor Brett Freese congratulated the participants for their efforts.

“It’s a huge achievement to complete any of these challenges and every single participant should be proud of themselves,” Cr Freese said.

“For every registration, Council is donating $2 to be split between the Lowood Stags Junior Rugby League Club and the Brisbane Valley Soccer Club.

“That’s nearly $2,000 which is going right back into the community, supporting active and healthy lifestyles in young families and our aspiring athletes.”

Open category male medallists for the 8km run were Samuel Fothergill (27:11), Daniel Brown (29:44) and Joshua Lehmann (30:29).

Open category female medallists for the 8km run were Brielle Erbacher (28:19), Tamara Carvolth (28:40) and Lauren Brown (33:57).

Full results can be found on the Somerset Rail Trail Classic website.

Council’s event showcased the best of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail with all courses crossing the finish line at the Fernvale Sports Park, where the festivities continued with stallholders, a rock climbing wall, food and other entertainment.

Cr Freese thanked the event’s Major Sponsor, A&M Civil Contracting, for supporting the Classic once again.

“Their ongoing support for the Somerset Rail Trail Classic has allowed us to deliver a bigger and better event every year,” Cr Freese said.

“A&M Civil are very involved with the community, sponsoring many other events in the region and our local sporting clubs.”

Council thanks its Gold Sponsors – Emaho Trees, Bellwether, ONF Surveyors, Urban Utilities, Karreman Quarries, River 94.9, and Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association.

Council also thanks its Silver Sponsors: Holding Redlich, Georgia Greet – Ray White Ipswich / Rosewood, Silverstrand, Daniel Banditt, Pacific Fuel Solutions, and Kilcoy Global Foods.
