Shellharbour City Council, Media Release, 19 June 2025

Whale watching is in full swing in Shellharbour with numerous sightings occurring this month, including some incredible drone footage from Bushrangers Bay caught by local ORRCA volunteer Ty Peters.

A pod of whales made a rare stop in Bushrangers Bay at Bass Point during their annual migration north, as onlookers were treated to an up-close glimpse of the majestic mammals.

Keep an eye out along our coastal walkways and beaches – you might be lucky enough to spot a whale as they make their way up the coast. There are plenty of great local vantage points to enjoy the view. Or, if you’re interested, you can head out on a whale watching tour from Shellharbour Marina. Follow Visit Shellharbour on Facebook for updates on sightings and the best spots to watch from.
