50 new local jobs

Recent stories

The reopening of Naracoorte’s Kincraig Hotel this December under new ownership is set to bring a much-needed boost to the local economy with the creation of 50 new jobs for the community.

Development works on the multimillion-dollar, five-star accommodation are advancing, with the project’s completion anticipated to rejuvenate the local economy through its diverse offerings.

In an interview with The [Naracoorte] News, Peter Johnson, director of the Dean Group—the new owner of the property—shared that a range of hospitality-related job openings will soon be announced, with a strong focus on hiring locally.

Local resident Zac Andrews has been appointed as the venue manager, with a mission to “connect locals through locals,” emphasising community engagement and homegrown hospitality.

Mr Johnson said the revamped multi-faceted venue will provide a family-focused offering for local residents, including a 24-room modern accommodation, corporate meeting spaces for local businesses, an open bar, and a dining area complemented by a children’s play area.

He said the hotel was keen on using local supplies, including wines and produce grown by local farmers.

“Our aim is to create an establishment seen in a positive light and be an extension of the community, which supports local sporting groups and clubs, provides a meeting place for business and social groups, and engages with the locals,” Mr Johnson said.

“The venue will provide short and long-term accommodation for workers in the area as well as travellers to the South East.

“Accommodation will feature a one-to-two-bedroom floor plan with ensuite bathrooms, custom-made decors, grand fixtures and fittings, a carpark with two major entries, and pet- and disability-friendly accessibility.”

He shared the hotel’s grand opening would feature a comprehensive guest experience, highlighted by a large and striking 3D butterfly swing and what is claimed to be “the largest whisky collection in the area,” curated from Scotland’s renowned Highlands—paying homage to the hotel’s rich Scottish heritage—and an upmarket wine experience.

“We will also promote regional whisky.”

Mr Johnson noted that although several developers had previously attempted to revamp the hotel, the Dean Group—with its extensive expertise—plans to honor the hotel’s heritage dating back to 1930.

And their goal is to captivate some of the 90,000 annual visitors to the Naracoorte Caves, encouraging them to explore, stay, and engage more within the rural town.
