Our dear friend and comrade, Paul Simons, passed away peacefully on 20th May 2025, aged 97 years. A grand age for a grand man.

We knew Paul as the Master of ‘Euralie’, Yass, NSW. Paul loved ‘Euralie’, building roads and dams, renovating farm buildings, planting trees, carrying out erosion remediation measures and generally developing ‘Euralie’ into a super fine wool producing property of the highest order.

Paul Simons

Paul and his partner, Lyndall Eeg, introduced us in 2008 and have remained our close and fun loving comrades ever since.

Paul was a generous host and a fine raconteur of tales and provider of insights obtained during his very successful and varied life. Paul had a perceptive mind and a dry sense of humour. One always felt that no matter what the challenge might be and no matter how daunting the circumstances, Paul could be relied upon to find a solution, all the while retaining his calm no nonsense approach and his self-deprecating sense of humour. ‘Victory is certain’ was one of his favourite sayings.

Time spent with Paul always left one feeling better equipped to face the world beyond.

So, friend, farewell, until we meet you again, sitting on the porch at ‘Euralie’, with Clancy and Kelly at your feet and Lyndall at your side, cigar in hand, swapping jokes and stories and sipping a G&T or three as the sun sets, a golden glow behind the eucalypts standing tall on the rolling hills of the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, the kookaburras and cockatoos calling out their evening chorus.

Well done sir!

Wishing you fair winds and following seas,

James Harker-Mortlock and Fiona Fox
