It’s all downhill in Denmark for WA’s top riders

Recent stories

Denmark Mountain Bike Club hosted two rounds of the WA State Downhill Series attracting more than 150 riders over two days.

Among the top riders was a big contingent of Denmark and Albany riders who battled rough terrain, rock drops and gap jumps to be the fastest down the hill.

Even the best of riders fell victim to flat tyres, stacks and slides in their final race runs. Father and son, Nathan and Flynn Devenport, threw everything they had at their final race runs to take out the under-13 and master 3-4 categories on both days.

The Drummond boys smashed out an epic run with younger brother, Jye, in under-15s and older brother Jake in under-17s taking out the top spots over the weekend.

Denmark Mountain Bike Club president Brad Drummond said this was the first time the club had run two rounds over the weekend.

The event was also the first time the WA series had run an elite women’s class.

With the an increase in female participation it was possible to run the female classes in line with the male classes.

Albany female riders had success down the hill, with former Olympian Tanya Bailey and rising star Jess Waldron taking out the two spots in the elite women’s category in round two.

Abbey O’Donnell featured in second place on the podium in round three in the under-19s category.

Denmark rider Karis Aplin overcame countless crashes on round two to take out the second spot on the podium in round three in the masters’ category.
