With springtime comes the Agricultural Show season in Murrindindi and Mansfield Shires. The Alexandra Show, being held this year on 11 November, is the first of the three shows on consecutive weekends. Mansfield Show will be held on 18 November and the Yea Show a week later on 25 November.

Alexandra Show 2023

This year the Alexandra Show will be having its 138th event and is very pleased to have working dog competition and a number of horse rings after cancelling all livestock sections last year after the flooding. It will be the first year since 2019 that these events have occurred. Alexandra and District Dog Obedience will also be attending, running some obedience and rally competitions for members.

In other big news, The Pastoral and Agricultural Society was successful in obtaining a grant from Murrindindi Shire Council which has gone towards funding Black Snake Productions attending with a mammalian display and educational sessions. The Society is very grateful for this funding, and extends thanks to all sponsors for this year – Mal, Ryan and Glen Solicitors who are a major sponsor of the Horse arenas; HGTurf who are a major sponsor of the entire show and Elders Alexandra and Eildon Outboard Service and Repairs who are both Blue Ribbon Sponsors. As a not for profit organisation, the Society is incredibly grateful for this support.

Other attractions for this year include the Poultry pavilion, the Ladies Pavilion which encompasses everything from photography, to handcrafts and baking and preserves and the Schoolwork pavilion which showcases the work of local primary schools. Entry forms and show schedules are available in hard copy in the Alexandra Newsagent, and online at alexandrashow.com.au

Some of the attendees for this year will be The Showmans’ guild who will be bringing concession stands and rides; the Showbag Factory (for all your Showbags needs); The Alexandra Scouts serving up the best bacon and egg rolls and face painting; The SES and CFA who will promoting their brand new and only one of its kind rescue boat as well as fire safety and vehicle rescue displays; The Alexandra and Eildon Lapidary Club and a live dingo display and information.

As the event falls on Remembrance day, there will be a minutes silence observed at 11am and fundraising tins will be around to support the Returned Servicemen’s League. Please consider supporting both the Show and the RSL.
