Expo strikes a chord

Recent stories

A record number of 25 exhibitors showcased the resources that are available to communities before, during and after an emergency at the North East Emergency Expo in Corryong on Saturday.

More than 400 people visited the expo at the Corryong Recreation Reserve which was organised by the North East Emergency Action Group Inc. (NEEAG).

“We have had nothing but positive feedback from the community about the expo, both on social media and direct contact,” said president, Carina Newton.

“One of our members said that a lady came up to him saying it was all still very raw but she still appreciated what we were doing for their community and gave him a hug.

“Everyone enjoyed the day and we are very honored that we came to their community and cannot wait until the next event, with many participating groups wanting to stay involved.”

Ms Newton said that the live fire show by the local CFA Cluster group was a big hit and “the kids running underneath the Rural Fire Service’s huge hose on the front of the vehicle also looked fun!”

They also enjoyed making badges including one of Corryong sergeant Brendan Lampkin that read ‘Good Cop’.

Importantly, the expo raises vital funds for the local community to be used for emergency related projects and/or services.

Around $1,000 was raised for two local projects which are new emergency signage for recovery centres and extra storage space at the new FoodShare building for emergency situations.

Pupils from five regional schools also participated in a colouring competition – Sacred Heart Corryong, Mitta Mitta, Talgarno, Walwa and Khancoban.

Winners

Foundation – Paige from Sacred Heart; Grade One – Matilda from Mitta Mitta; Grade Two – Claire from Sacred Heart; Grade Three – Kayde from Sacred Heart; Grade Four – Clara from Khancoban; Grade Five – Evie from Mitta Mitta; Grade Six – Marley from Khancoban.
