Police from the Darling Downs District have launched the Community Camera Alliance at the Denise Kable Youth Services Centre in the Toowoomba suburb of Centenary Heights.
Community Camera Alliance is an opportunity for members of the community across the region to register their closed circuit television (CCTV) system with the Queensland Police Service (QPS).
The Community Camera Alliance promotes the relationship between the community and the QPS by encouraging registration of CCTV systems to prevent crime and make the community safer.
CCTV has become a crucial investigative tool in modern policing and is regularly used to investigate and solve often serious crimes.
CCTV images can potentially reduce investigation times, resulting in swifter outcomes.
Historically, investigators have benefited from CCTV systems in business or commercial premises, however recent advancements in technology, affordability and accessibility have resulted in more people choosing to utilise CCTV at their homes for safety and security.
To register or find out more information, visit Community Camera Alliance.
To register, all residents need to do is to complete the registration form and their voluntary registration will be stored in an existing secure database named QPRIME, which is utilised and solely accessed by members of the QPS.
Security of the information provided will be maintained by the Police Service.
