The first of three spans of girders are now in place as the basis of the new Towong Bridge deck slab begins to take form.
The first five pre-cast bridge girders were craned into place early this week with each spanning up to 20 metres in length and weighing up to 30 tonnes. The remaining 10 pre-cast bridge girders will be placed next week.
Work is also nearing completion on the Victorian side of the Murray River to erect a 20-metre-long steel and concrete retaining wall.
Once all the girders have been placed, crews will finalise work on cross beams connecting, the first of which are expected to be poured at the end of February into early March.
