Naracoorte to host professional development workshop: Racing SA

Racing SA is offering those living in the state’s South-East and wanting a career in thoroughbred racing a great opportunity to expand their knowledge.

Multiple Group 1 winning jockey and Racing SA’s industry, development and training officer Clare Lindop will be joined by Racing SA’s Jockey Coach Dean Pettit for a Professional Development Workshop at Naracoorte later this month.

Stablehands, track-work riders, and those thinking about becoming a track work rider can attend the free workshop at Naracoorte Racing Club on Monday, January 23.

Multiple Group 1 winning jockey and Racing SA’s industry, development and training officer Clare Lindop will be joined by Racing SA’s Jockey Coach Dean Pettit to host the day which will encourage and support students with the knowledge to progress their career in the Racing Industry.

The free full-day workshop will include a light lunch and give participants a broad overview of the structure of Racing in South Australia.

Participants can expect a range of activities, from skills to help in daily work and include some aspirational challenges for those looking at a future career whether that be as an Apprentice Jockey, Trainer or Cadet Steward.

It will also explore other areas of racing such as the breeding industry and highlight how a job in racing can take you overseas.

Those taking part will also be educated on welfare and the work Thorough Care SA does, as well as the Bred to Race programs which Racing SA implement.

Some of the activities include:

  • How the Racing Qualifications and traineeships are undertaken in SA
  • Structure of Racing SA and understanding registering as a licensed stable employee
  • Skills and fitness to help develop riding style
  • Mechanical horse challenge
  • Thorough Care SA equine welfare information session
