Young hockey player Tom Campbell is Perth-bound

Recent stories

Mount Rascal resident Tom Campbell is off to Perth this weekend as part of the Queensland Under 21 team to contest the National Under 21 Hockey Tournament.

It’s a great feat for any local player to be included in a State team, but Tom’s selection is even more impressive when you consider that he is just 16 years of age.

He is the youngest member of the Queensland team.
Toowoomba Hockey’s Matt Cook said Tom, a Year 11 student at Centenary Heights State High School, has had a huge pre-season and made the Queensland Under 18 team earlier this year and was identified in the Australian Futures Under 18 squad.

Tom also was named “Player of the Tournament” at the recent Queensland Under 18 hockey tournament held on the Gold Coast over the first weekend of the current school holidays, where the Toowoomba men’s Under 18 team placed second, after losing the grand final 3-4 to the Gold Coast.

Matt Cook described Tom as “a very talented young boy”.

He said the ten-day event in Perth will test Tom’s ability against some of the best young players in the country.

“He’s very fortunate to have the opportunity,” Cook said. Tom’s parents Grant and Nicole Campbell are proud of their son’s effort.

“He’ll learn a lot over there,” Nicole said.
