The Gallery is very excited to be participating in the national tour of Patricia Piccinini’s Skywhales by hosting a Ballarat launch of these enormous floating sculptures on Saturday 9 July at sunrise.
We recently announced that the venue for the launch will be Ballarat’s historic Eastern Oval this location means that in whatever direction the wind takes them, they will be floating over central Ballarat.
The launch will be accompanied by a live performance of the launch soundtrack by Canberra musician Jess Green (AKA Pheno) and her band, and nearly 100 local children will sing as the Skywhales take to the skies.
Entry to the Eastern Oval to watch the launch is free but we are encouraging everyone who wants to participate to register so that we can keep you updated with news.
- Gates open: 6.15 am
- Preparations for launch commence: 7am
