Forrest buys WA station from UK investor

Recent stories

Mining billionaire Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest continues to invest in Australian agriculture, snapping up his second cattle station in Western Australia in a month for an estimated $70 million.

The circa 604,430-hectare East Kimberley-based Springvale Aggregation sits around 70km north of Halls Creek and is speculated to include 35,000 cattle  across four pastoral leases, Springvale, Mable Downs, Alice Downs, and Texas Downs.

The purchase by Forrest’s diversified agribusiness, Harvest Road, follows the $32 million acquisition of the 634,000-hectare Balfour Downs Station from TBG Agri Holdings in February.

The Springvale Aggregation includes the Bungle Bungle Caravan Park on the Mabel Downs lease, as well as all four leases staff quarters, sheds and permanent cattle yards.

The aggregation also includes multiple natural water holes and infrastructure, with some water points recently upgraded to include new solar pumping systems, in addition to an underway replacement trough program.

“We will focus on the sustainability of the property by destocking appropriately to leave a well-selected breeding herd and to build a strong genetic base for our supply chain, as well as allow the country a well-deserved rest,” said Ben Dwyer, chief operating officer of pastoral, backgrounding and feeding facility at Harvest Road.

The vendor, the Yeeda Pastoral Company, which is owned by the UK-based ADM Capital, has held the property for two decades.

“We are very happy to be handing the reins on to Harvest Road to bring the station back to its former position as an iconic breeding property and build on the potential of the Kimberley pastoral industry,” said Marvyn Key, chairman of Yeeda Pastoral Company.

Forrest has been on spree in the industry, having just invested a further $35 million in Bega Cheese shares, as well as a $35 million stake in the Australian Agricultural Company.

The sale of the Springvale Aggregation is still subject to the approval by the Western Australia Minister for Lands.
