Region 6 of the Murray Darling Association (MDA) is announcing its annual 2021 Region 6 Stakeholder Symposium, themed “Water Use Efficiency: Benefits that flow.”

The Region 6 committee will host councils from across the Murray-Darling Basin (the Basin) and will meet with around 100 water stakeholders at the newly refurbished Bridgeport Hotel in Murray Bridge this October. Delegates will share information on water use efficiencies and discuss opportunities for the future health and prosperity of both the region and the Basin.

In partnership with Landscape SA, Murraylands and Riverland, and the Rural City of Murray Bridge (RCMB), the symposium will provide a platform for local and upstream water stakeholders and community groups to engage in critical conversations.

“The vision for MDA Region 6 Coorong and Lower Lakes, is to showcase how far we have come since the millennium drought, how we’ll use water efficiently and discuss issues and opportunities for more water recovery for the entire basin. We will have MDA regional chairs present from upstream to share insights and discuss their issues” Cr Melissa Rebbeck said. Cr Rebbeck is a councillor with Alexandrina Council, MDA Vice President (Southern Basin) and Chair of Region 6.

The symposium, held on 13 – 14 October, is a 3-part event. The first day will see participants engage with panel sessions addressing the Environment, Delivery Partners, Agriculture and Local Government, followed by an optional networking dinner. The second day sends participants on a field trip, departing from the Bridgeport hotel to circumnavigate the Lower Lakes and across the barrages.

All precautions are being made to host a safe and successful event. In person registrations are encouraged, with virtual registration available for those who can’t make it in person. In the event of further restrictions, we will be pivoting to an online format and links will be sent to all registrants.

Thanks to our sponsor’s registration for the symposium, networking dinner, and the field trip is free. Numbers are strictly limited.
