A recent 10 day stretch on the Southern Yorke Peninsula has been compared to the Mad March of Adelaide, with the amount of bowls being played.

Bowls competitions were played across the region on almost every day from Thursday, March 4, to Monday, March 15.

Some of the competitions included the ladies’ semi-finals at Yorketown, followed by the open section on the Saturday, with games at Yorketown and Edithburgh.

The Sunday saw Warooka host the Southern Yorke Peninsula Bowling Association singles, where top bowls were played and won by previous winners in Merrilyn Lovelock, of Port Vincent, and Luke Brind, of Port Victoria.

On the Monday the association pairs were played at Warooka, with Merrilyn Lovelock and Lyn White combining to win another title, while the men’s pairs went to the Edithburgh team of Bill Bartley and Michael Davies, for their first win of the title.

On the Tuesday, the Stansbury Bowling Club held their annual fours tournament, with a full house.

The Wednesday saw Stansbury host the semi-final of the state triples between Edithburgh and Yorketown, with the Yorketown team winning the rights to play the finals against Moonta at a venue and date to be advised.

The Thursday saw Stansbury host the preliminary final of the ladies competition, with Minlaton defeating Port Victoria by five shots to advance to the grand final, which is to be played at Curramulka next week.

In division two, Edithburgh defeated Port Vincent by one shot to advance to the grand final.

Friday was virtually a lay day, with no bowls before Stansbury hosted the preliminary final between Yorketown and Stansbury in division one and Stansbury and Port Vincent Black in second division.

Edithburgh then hosted their annual Ivan Sparnon tournament on the Sunday and Monday.

The ladies grand Final will be played on Thursday at Curramulka and the open finals at Warooka on  Saturday.
