Vibrant Newstead underway

Gen Barlow. Newstead's major auspicing organisation, Newstead 2021 Inc, has contracted two community development workers for six months. Local residents Joni Fitzgerald and Gen Barlow will work with Newstead groups and people on projects and find and match would-be volunteers with projects and micro-tasks.

Ambulance service medal for paramedic

Maldon resident and Advanced Life Support paramedic Barry Curtain is one of five Ambulance Victoria workers who have been awarded Ambulance Service Medals, as part of the 2024 national honours list.  The Australian honours list acknowledges Australians for achievements, service and contribution to community above and beyond the call of duty.  

A big shout out to the Wheel Cactus Lone Warriors!

At this time of the year, in areas around Maldon, you can certainly notice the Wheel Cactus asserting its presence; small ones popping up and mature plants displaying their distinct yellow blooms and dark red fruit atop their cladodes or ‘wheels’. It’s a stark reminder that Wheel Cactus remains an ongoing challenge in the area...

Australia Day – Survival Day 2024

Council extends a big thank you to residents for taking part in the Australia Day – Survival Day community event, held in Castlemaine last Friday ... Along with the presentation of the Australia Day Awards, six people took the pledge to become Australian citizens at the community event

Tower’s 100th birthday

It was quite the gathering at the Mount Tarrengower tower’s 100th birthday last Friday, especially when you consider that it was an impromptu event put together in a matter of days ... Former fire tower operator Peter Skilbeck pointed out that he had spent almost a third of his life   - 26 years - working on top of the tower.

Clydesdales cancelled?

Due to compliance issues with Council, Sandy Creek Clydesdales owners Matthew and Jaimie Thompson say they have been forced to cancel much of their business activities ... well-known and much-loved enterprise ... “We delved into just what changing the land use zoning would require,” Jaimie said.
