Maldon’s First Notable Town signs
Lee Mead. As you probably already know, Maldon township was discovered by heritage architects during the 1960s and recognised as having a significant number of original, unique, intact gold-mining era buildings and streetscapes. And as a consequence, was declared Victoria’s First Notable Town by the National Trust.

Burst water main
Many residents on the south side of Maldon came home to find that their taps were not issuing water last Friday afternoon ... Troy Waterhouse, aptly named, exceptionally good-natured and covered in mud, spent at least an hour in the sludgy pit by the side of the road, scooping out water and fixing the main so that water delivery was restored to residents in reasonable time.

The attendees at the Newstead Midwinter Dance were very keen to dance. On such a chilly and wet night, a certain level of zest was required to even leave the house; Saturday’s crowd showed enthusiasm in abundance.
Castlemaine Festival emerges from administration
The Board of Castlemaine State Festival announced last week that it will commence planning for a 2026 festival and expects to appoint a new artistic director later this year. In March the board had stated that it was entering voluntary administration and that specialists from Deloitte Financial Advisory had been appointed to "assess the options available to restructure the operations, preserve the legacy of the festival and determine a path forward."
Maldon and beyond: Really Local conversations
An interactive conversation between Maldon locals and the current Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mount Alexander Shire will take place at Maldon Neighbourhood Centre this Sunday 21 July from 2pm. Coordinated by the volunteer-run group Really Local, the event is billed as a ‘genuine community discussion’ to which everyone in the area is invited.
