All NSW State Highways are now sealed, the Mount Manara stretch of the Ivanhoe-Wilcannia section of the Cobb Highway having the honour of being the last section, and it may be that NSW is the first state to have all highways sealed. The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) says more than one year after Victoria’s devastating 2022 flood event, the state’s crumbling roads are worse than ever and continue to fall into disrepair.

Truck drivers urged to slow down on gravel roads

With the 2023 harvest now underway truck drivers are being urged to slow down to 70km/h to help preserve the condition of unsealed rural roads in the Midwest. Corrugations, or washboard effect, caused by acceleration and deceleration pose the greatest risk to drivers and their vehicles.

Extra rates to be spent on roads

Patrick Goldsmith. Yorke Peninsula Council will spend the $405,114 in extra rates revenue garnered from primary producers, on road-related efficiency improvement. YPC rates increased by eight per cent this year, with an extra three per cent hit taken by primary producers.

Road to recovery

Restoration works by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have begun on Cambooya Connection Road, with other roads in the local area to follow ... A TMR spokesperson said the Department is undertaking works on these roads to repair damage caused by several significant rainfall events between November 2021 and May 2022.

Ribbon cut on mighty Bells Creek Arterial Road: Palaszczuk, Bailey

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey and Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt officially opened the eight kilometre extension of Bells Creek Arterial Road, completing the 11.9km link between the Bruce Highway and Caloundra Road.

Unfunded concept design includes Pipidinny Rd intersection

A concept design to extend the dual carriageway of Wanneroo Rd to include the Pipidinny Rd intersection has been completed, according to Main Roads WA. “Main Roads completed a concept design for the extension of the dual carriageway of Wanneroo Rd just south of Bernard Rd North to just north of Pipidinny Rd in 2021 however, this is not currently funded for construction,’’ a Main Roads spokesperson said.

TMR extends consultation for north-south bypass

A meeting held at Westbrook on Monday night provided some clarity on the Department of Transport and Main Road’s (TMR) proposed Toowoomba North South Transport Corridor, however some details still remain a mystery. The meeting was organised by concerned community members in conjunction with Member for Condamine Pat Weir.

A Naracoorte-Lucindale counsellor has asked the council and his fellow elected members what they intend to do about the poor management of road maintenance and the underutilization of the road-making machinery in the district. In a question with notice submitted on July 13 to be presented in the council’s meeting this month, Cr Trevor Rayner said, "I get re-elected on the promise of trying to address this issue, but at this stage it has been to no avail".
