Visitor Park update for local residents
Barkly Regional Deal hosted a BBQ information session on Wednesday to update interested community residents and stakeholders on the progress of the Tennant Creek Visitor Park. The Visitor park aims to provide short-term, alternative and affordable accommodation for people travelling to town for cultural, health or social reasons.
A call for new members from local Aboriginal Alliance
The Barkly Aboriginal Alliance, a self-governing body which gives a voice to all Indigenous people in the Barkly, is looking for new members to join them. The Alliance seeks to create a better future for all communities in the region with their vision being that "Homelands and Communities in the Barkly are self-determining and thriving".
Council’s community managers in town for training conference
Barkly Regional Council’s community area managers were in Tennant Creek this week for a two-day training and information conference. Council Area and Department Managers from Ali Curung, Alpurrurulam, Alparra and Elliott met with Tennant Creek managers, department heads and new and existing staff to talk about what’s happening in their communities and receive updates what’s happening at the Tennant Creek head office.

An Ali Curung resident couldn’t believe his eyes when he checked the rain gauge at Council on Thursday morning. Michael Stanley-Hunt knew the downpour Wednesday night was heavy, was evident by the flooding in and around the community, but the rain gauge measured a staggering 540mL.
Indigenous business leaders to showcase knowledge in Tennant
The Tennant Creek Community Shed is bringing an exciting enterprise showcase to town this weekend where locals can hear from leading business leaders from across the country ... Speakers will include Natasha Short of Kimberley Jiyagas, Jason Lord from Arrernte Community Boxing Academy, Matt Panayl from Social Traders and the Barkly’s own John Fitz from the Tennant Creek Community Shed to name a few.

Teachers and students headed back to school on Tuesday after the six-week break to start the new school year. Plenty of nerves and excitement as students look forward to seeing friends and getting to know new teachers ... One big change this year that has been welcomed by staff and parents, is the introduction of the mobile phone ban.
Community artworks on show to celebrate 35 years since Mungkarta took their land back
The Mungkarta community is celebrating 35 years since Traditional Owners took their country back in a Native Title Land Claim. In commemoration of the 1988 Mungkarta Land Claim, the school and community gathered local artworks to display at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art & Culture Centre.
Barkly’s Australia Day Awards focus on our local heroes
Tennant Creek’s born and bred doctor Sarah Goddard took the top honours in the Local Government 2023 Australia Day Awards for Tennant Creek. Dr Goddard has spent well over a decade reaching her goals to become a doctor and Citizen of the Year Awards adds to her list of growing accolades, winning best Indigenous doctor in Australia late last year in the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association (AIDA) awards.
