Tennant Creek Speedway celebrates its own Rising Star
Tennant Creek Speedway had been forefront of motor sports throughout the NT over the last couple of weeks. Jamie Jones was nominated for 2023 Junior Driver and 2023 Rising Star in the Motor sport NT awards.
New ranger hub marks 20 years of progress for Muru-warinyi Ankkul Rangers
The Central Land Council celebrated the opening of the much-awaited Tennant Creek Ranger Hub at 37 Brown Street, Tennant Creek on Wednesday. The new ranger hub was unveiled by CLC Chair Matthew Palmer, Executive Member Sandra Morrison, and the Traditional Owner Ranger Advisory Committee of the Muru-war- inyi Ankkul Rangers, with a celebratory barbeque and cake.

Australia Day winners celebrated at small council presentation
After the big washout of festivities on Australia Day, Barkly Regional Council rescheduled the awards ceremony for last Friday at the Council Chambers. A good number of community members turned out to support the winners of the various categories. However, several of the winners were unable to attend due to other commitments, including Citizen of the Year Alba Brockie.
Civil works on long-awaited Youth Justice Facility set to start
Youth on bail in Tennant Creek will be able to stay on Country and close to home with construction commencing on a new Youth Justice Accommodation Facility. Part of the $100.5 million Barkly Regional Deal, civil works at the Peko Road facility will begin this month.
Dillon leaves a visual lasting legacy
Little did Pam Dillon know when she accepted a six-month contract to come to Tennant Creek that it would develop into a 10-year passion for delivering sports education to communities and schools in the Barkly.

Australia Day wash-out, awards to take place at council chambers
Australia Day dawned less than sunny last Friday, and unfortunately for all those looking forward to watching the annual Australia Day Awards being presented and then participating in the fun to follow. Preparations were well underway when the sky opened up, and unfortunately, due to safety concerns arising from the lightning, Australia Day events were postponed.
Journey to sustainable homes for Barkly country unveiled at exhibition
Wilya Ajjul Janta Aboriginal Corporation held an exhibition last Friday at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Cultural Centre to unveil its housing model that is more environmentally and culturally appropriate for Warumungu country. CEO Simon Quilty was ecstatic with the turnout and the community’s interest in changing the Territory’s housing models to suit its searing heat, especially in light of climate change.
