Liberal Party discuss plan for wine industry support – understand and listen

Hugh Schuitemaker. Riverland wineries to expand export opportunities would be an aim if the Liberal Party was successful at the next Federal Election, according to senior local politicians. Barker MP Tony Pasin last week toured Angove Family Winemakers, in Renmark, with federal opposition spokesperson for trade and tourism, Kevin Hogan, and Riverland-based MLC, and opposition spokesperson for regional South Australia, Nicola Centofanti.

‘Getting worse and people don’t realise’

While the majority of Riverlanders have remained comfortable through the past week’s winter conditions, access to stable accommodation is becoming a concern for a growing section of the population. Local individuals and families are among South Australians increasingly at risk of struggling with homelessness, due to cost-of-living pressures and low housing availability.

Meeting next week for Morant proposal

Hugh Schuitemaker. Renmark Paringa Council and the local RSL are in favour of an idea to honour an iconic Australian military figure with connections to the Riverland. A meeting will be held by Adelaide City Council on Tuesday to discuss a proposal of adding Harry ‘Breaker’ Morant’s name to the state heritage-listed Boer War Memorial.

Bird (flu) is the word

Hugh Schuitemaker. A Senior Riverland politician says the State Government needs increased preparation against potential bird flu outbreaks in South Australia. Riverland-based MLC, and opposition spokesperson for regional SA, Nicola Centofanti has claimed documents obtained through a Freedom of Information request revealed "no official correspondence" between Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven and the state’s chief veterinary officer (CVO) regarding the threat of H7 HPAI bird flu between May and July.
