Bill will kickstart housing supply
Independent Federal Member for Indi, Helen Haines, introduced a Bill to Parliament this week to increase the amount of government housing funding that will go to regional Australia. The Unlocking Regional Housing Bill specifically addresses the housing crisis in regional, rural and remote Australia, by making funding easier to access and requiring the Minister to look at action so that at least 30 per cent of funding to go to regional, rural and remote Australia.

Firewood collection areas open
Victorians are now able to collect free firewood for personal use from state forest firewood collection areas until Thursday 30 November, 2023. Forest Fire Management Victoria, Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Jarrod Hayse, said firewood collection is only allowed in designated firewood collection areas during a firewood season.

Community responds to urgent need

At the community meeting, SES officers spoke about the flowon effect for the Upper Murray community if the Corryong unit shut down and the impact that would have including the increased risk of loss of life.
Farmers call for wild dog plan extension
The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is urging the Victorian government to renew the highly successful Wild Dog Management Plan that has seen an enormous drop in wild dog attacks on livestock since launching in 2012.
