Despite the chill in the air the community turned out in force in the Attree Centre on Friday night at the ‘Corryong Spirit’ event to support and connect with local families who have endured hardship on different levels in the past few years, particularly those who have been affected by suicide.
Dogs stay in finals race
Bullioh’s finals campaign will continue after the Dogs comfortably accounted for Corryong in the 1st semi-final on Saturday by a massive 145 points. After a testing and winless season, the Demons offered little resistance as Bulliohs scored at will, piling on 29 goals in the demolition.
Kids’ visit brings good cheer
Thirteen children braved a foggy winter’s morning last week and walked from Corryong Pre-school to Mittamatite Lodge Residential Aged Care to meet with residents. They gave each resident a very cheery hello before settling in for morning tea, a spot of colouring-in and some good old-fashioned conversation.
Local rescue service faces shutdown
For decades, Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Corryong Unit volunteers have provided vital assistance to their local community during flood and storm events, road rescue incidents and by supporting partner agencies in times of emergency. However, despite a recent recruitment drive, the Corryong unit’s membership numbers remain critical and at present, are below a sustainable operational level.
Park power lines plan leads to court
Three years after withdrawing a legal challenge to the NSW government’s decision to approve Snowy 2.0 because of the potential legal costs involved, the National Parks Association of NSW (NPA) is now proceeding with an action in the Land and Environment Court. The case against the previous NSW government’s decision to allow new overhead transmission lines through Kosciuszko National Park (KNP) as part of the Snowy 2.0 project is set to be heard today.
Tunnel borer relaunched
An important milestone has been reached by Snowy Hydro, the Snowy 2.0 project and for one of its three tunnel boring machines (TBM). TBM Lady Eileen Hudson was the first machine to start tunnelling on the pumped-hydro mega project, the first to complete a tunnel and is now underway on her second tunnel excavation.
Dog attacks will surge if buffer goes
Member for Benambra, Bill Tilley, fears farms in the Upper Murray will again be under constant threat from wild dogs if the rules for trappers are watered down. On Tuesday night in the Victorian Parliament, Mr Tilley called on the Agriculture Minister to visit the region and hear from the landholders who lived through the carnage of the early 2000s.
