Community spirit came to the fore
Many residents of the close-knit community of Towong gathered on Saturday to celebrate the official re-opening of the Towong Soldiers Memorial Hall ... during the 2019-20 bushfires it was the local relief centre and as a place to reconnect with friends and neighbours.
Film had a profound effect
A compelling feature film that seeks to initiate and deepen conversations around mental health particularly within the agricultural community, was screened to nearly 100 people at the Corryong Youth Club Hall last Friday evening. Leila McDougall, scriptwriter, lead actress and co-producer of ‘Just a Farmer’ - based around the community of a farming family who lose husband and father to suicide - spoke afterwards...
Piano takes pride of place

Street works impact on youth centre
Despite a number of delays caused by the Corryong streetscape project, the re-opening of the Youth Space in Hanson Street will go ahead tomorrow. In 2021, Upper Murray Innovation Foundation (UMIF) - the Corryong Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) Community Foundation - received a federal Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant to refurbish and re-equip the Youth Space at 42 Hanson Street.
Give more power to the people
Member for Indi, Helen Haines, has urged the federal government to help households bring down their power bills through improving access to home battery storage. Meeting with Assistant Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Josh Wilson, in Parliament this week, Dr Haines pushed for support of her Cheaper Home Batteries Bill in response to collapsing solar feed-in tariffs and the rising cost-of-living.
Tourism attraction is set to re-open
After rocky progress over the past four years, rehabilitation of the Bluff Falls tourism area at Cudgewa North following the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires is almost complete. In June last year, a residents’ action group was formed to progress the recovery project and it sought the support of the community to get the tourism site re-opened.
With the bias
It was an intense few hours of bowling when Corryong took on the Commercial Club bowlers on their home turf in Albury on Saturday in the opening round of the Ovens & Murray weekend pennant competition. The visitors got off to a good start but once the Commercial bowlers got into their rhythm on a faster somewhat quirky pitch it was a game of catch up for the Corryong teams.
