Opinion – We must pursue our duty to veterans: Haines

Helen Haines. The decision to serve your country is a momentous one. Whether in peacetime or in war, our servicemen and servicewomen put the safety, security and prosperity of our nation before their own. Whether you serve on the frontlines or not, defence service is dangerous. The wounds go far beyond the physical and we now know the significant mental toll our veterans and their families face.

Boring machines are making steady progress

The Snowy 2.0 pumped hydro megaproject has marked a significant milestone, with one of three tunnel boring machines (TBM), Lady Eileen Hudson, now two-thirds of the way through its second tunnel excavation. Spotlight put on election vows

Member for Indi, Helen Haines, is asking the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) to investigate election commitments made by the Labor Party in 2022, amounting to $1.35 billion through two invitation only grant funds ... "The ANAO is the auditor for public spending – it makes sure that when the government spends taxpayer money, it stacks up. I want to know if these election commitment programs do indeed stack up."

Tourism group has more irons in the fire

At the 2024 annual general meeting of the Man from Snowy River Tourism Association (MFSRTA), president Ros McKenzie presented her report of its activities over the past 12 months ... The story of an American father and his two sons who swam Australia’s longest river, the Murray, is now available for streaming in Australia ... ‘Take Your Dream’ was made by the Helmick family ... The film features their 120-day swim down the Murray from Corryong, through Lake Hume and Lake Alexandrina, eventually ending at the mouth of the river in Goolwa, South Australia.
