Australia’s first crowdfunded solar farm powers up at Grong Grong

The Grong Grong solar farm powered up last week and is now operational, providing proof that community-owned renewables projects can get off the ground. The 1.5 megawatt (MW) project was officially launched a month ago, a celebration of a four year endeavour by Komo Energy to build the country’s first crowdfunded solar farm.

Community devastated at Kurrajong Laundry blaze

Kurrajong and the community in general were devastated with the news that the Kurrajong Narrandera Laundry building was extensively damaged by fire last Thursday night. Kurrajong team members arrived to find that emergency crews had contained the fire, but significant damage occurred, particularly to the centre of the building.

Narrandera hosts major horse event

Narrandera Adult Riding Club (NARC) recently hosted the BetaVet and Bendigo Bank HRCAV Top Teams Trophy (TTT) Horse Trials - the equivalent of the adult riding club State Championships ... One hundred riders travelled from all over Victoria and southern NSW to compete individually and also made up 23 teams of four riders. The riders competed in three phases over the two days - dressage, show jumping and cross country.

Big plans mooted for Showground

The Narrandera Show Ground Trust Land Manager has applied for substantial capital to manage a five-year redevelopment plan of the showgrounds and its assets. Mr David Farley said this first started with a topographical and services survey, restoration and remediation surveys on building assets, especially the Industrial Hall Dome building.

Jail time extended for choking offence

A man jailed for breaking into a house and intimidating a woman who subsequently died in a car crash in Yanco has had his prison time extended by three months after being sentenced for a separate offence in Griffith Local Court last Thursday. Dean Cluney, 33, had previously been handed a two-year and 10-month prison sentence for offences committed against Tania Murphy, 36, and another woman on April 5 2023.

Community views ignored by IPART in approval of rate rise

Former Narrandera Shire councillor and mayor Wesley Hall, who led a community revolt against Narrandera council’s proposal, said IPART’s decision to allow the Narrandera Shire Council’s substantial special rate variation to proceed showed that community views don’t matter. He said the group had put a lot of work into the submissions only to see the community views ignored which was very disappointing.
