Trainee pilots visit Nhill
Over the past month, eleven planes from ‘Flight Training Adelaide’ have flown into Nhill. The pilots are all trainees from Hong Kong, sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airlines. Flying Austrian-built Diamond Star aircraft, with their 180 hp Lycoming engines, the pilots have been doing flying navigation exercises, learning to use maps rather than GPS technology.
Across the district with local farmers
Cropping is in full swing across the district. Diapur farmer Tom Cook said, "Funny start to the season. I wouldn’t really say we’ve had the break, but I’ve got vetch and canola out of the ground. Still sowing into moisture at the moment as we move through our wheat program. Not sure the moisture will hang around for long though, unless we get more rain."
A small group with a big vision – Nhill Silo
Restoring the Nhill Silo isn’t a small endeavour, nor is it a cheap or an easy one. Nevertheless, a passionate group of local volunteers is committed to making it happen. The Nhill Silo Heritage Project was incorporated in 2021, following the purchase of the structure on behalf of the community.
Nhill shows support for do it for Dolly Day
Friday 12 May is Do It For Dolly Day, a national day dedicated to bringing the community together, spreading kindness and uniting in taking a stand against bullying. One in four Australian school students between years 4 and 9 are being bullied. One in seven of them won’t tell anyone. That’s over 340,000 young people staying silent.
Crouch wins champion of champions
Barry Crouch of Kaniva, representing Kaniva Rifle Club, recently won the state champions in target rifle in Bendigo. Barry has had a long family connection and love for rifle shooting, with both his father and uncle being keen rifle shooters and his sister won the champion of champions in Bendigo as a junior in 1977 and 1978.
Charlotte represents at Pageant
Charlotte Harris, formerly of Nhill who now resides in Wodonga recently competed for the title of Miss Teen Galaxy Australia for Australia Galaxy Pageants, and represented Victoria in Sydney on Saturday ... Charlotte was the only one chosen from Victoria.
Construction of new cabins underway
West Wimmera Shire Council is pleased to announce that construction has commenced on the new cabins for the Kaniva Caravan Park. The new cabins are part of the 'Cabins Across the Wimmera Mallee: Strengthening the Visitor Economy' initiative, a collaboration between Council, the Wimmera Development Association, and Hindmarsh, Buloke, and Yarriambiack shires.
