The Nhill Lake and surrounding recreational area has and still continues to attract many users. The ongoing maintenance under the guidance of Dale Stanford and a small group of volunteers is very much appreciated and valued.
Kaniva Community Carols: A celebration of Christmas spirit
Kaniva’s Community Hub came alive for the annual Christmas Carols last Friday, welcoming young families and people of all ages. Despite the inclement weather, the event saw a full house, preceded by Santa photos, face painting and a meet and greet with Santa on the oval.

Families praise West Wimmera early years services
A West Wimmera Shire Council survey on maternal and child health and support playgroup services has highlighted the overwhelmingly positive experiences from families in the community. The survey, which gathered responses from parents and caregivers from across the shire, showed strong satisfaction with the support and care currently provided.
Kaniva A&P Society – Wheat Crop Competition 2024
Escorting and helping our judge, Hamish Mines, around the 23 crops entered in this year’s competition was a pleasant surprise and a testament to modern farming practices and the skills of our farmers. Despite the tough season, expected yields and grain quality will still be good in the crops inspected and in others we drove by on our 200km tour of the Kaniva district.
Silo art goes indoors
Creativity within the silo world will take a new twist in Rainbow’s addition to the Silo Art Trail. Contractors are preparing to start construction of the Llew Schilling Silo Tourism Development within the next week or so. However, this innovative project will offer much more than one large-scale painting on the outside of a silo, according to Hindmarsh Shire CEO Monica Revell.

Nhill Lions exchange student Bailee White
Bailee White, daughter of Steve and Sarah White will leave soon to enjoy a "White Christmas" in Canada as the Lions Club of Nhill Inc. Youth Exchange Student for 2024. Bailee will be hosted by Mark and Sherry Pettapiece in Ontario Canada ... Their daughter Mikaela was fortunate enough to visit Australia in July this year and had a wonderful time.

Peppered in Nhill
John Williams. Growing up in Nhill I found the peppercorn tree a handy supply of ammunition for my bicycle pump. Those little pink peppercorns could really sting when fired from a "weaponised" hand pump. Back in the 50’s there was a multitude of pepper trees in Nhill as the town in the early days had its flat barren landscape beautified with pepper trees and sugar gums which provided excellent shade, shelter and aesthetic relief from the wide open spaces.
