Race Preview, Saturday 29 March 2025

After being narrowly defeated at Grafton a fortnight ago, Kaiwi is set to deliver the goods on McGuigan BMW Race Day at Port Macquarie on Saturday.

The daughter of Lean Mean Machine proved to be competitive in recent efforts on the Northern Rivers before being beaten under a length by Sun Topaze and High Class Roller at her last track appearance.

The bay mare made up good ground over the concluding stages of the race indicating the extra one hundred metres in distance for the weekend assignment would be greatly beneficial.

Peter Sinclair puts the polish on Kaiwi and relocated from his home base of Moree to train privately for Sutton Park racing boss, Mark Sowerby, and the astute mentor possesses a great strike rate after winning just under 900 races.

Considered the king of racing in the Northwest region, the fourth-generation trainer amassed three Moree Cups with Storm Boy, Upstart and Beacon together with numerous picnic silverware at his beloved circuit.

With the name being Hawaiian for symbol of life and age, Kaiwi should be hardest to beat in the middle-distance event with Prince Carlos and Yamba’s Girl set to provide the stiffest opposition.

Jane Clement is enjoying a successful training period over the past few months and saddles up Prince Carlos with the son of All Too Hard backing up after a solid second behind Waydie at Gunnedah a fortnight ago.

Yamba’s Girl was narrowly defeated by Prince Carlos at Tuncurry earlier in the month and the apprentice claim provided by Jett Newman could be a blessing in disguise for the mare’s first attempt at Saturday’s distance.

Luke Rolls is well placed to continue his recent riding success, and this could commence in the opening event has he links up with Kobaytera for partner, Cassie Schmidt.

The flashy chestnut mare is a new arrival to the Schmidt stable and looks well placed in an evenly balanced event following placings at Lismore and Ballina late last year.

The daughter of Kobayashi will derive a great deal of benefit from her last start fifth behind King Soleil at Taree and looks well placed to start the day well for punters.

Cool Space has been racing well around the provincial tracks and should be the hardest to beat in the second event on the program with keen judges expecting some support for Sagaponack on debut following a solid barrier trial at the Beaumont track earlier in the month.

Nikki Pollock has a strong hand in the John Oxley Landrover Handicap with Joanneski and Shades of Truth returning from their recent successful picnic engagements with both enjoying the sharp drop in handicap weights.

Greg McFarlane has two definite hopes in the final two events on the program with Sweet Bubbles followed by Geewiz Johnny with the pair providing strong credentials for their weekend assignments.

The Port Macquarie Race Club would like to sincerely thank McGuigan BMW for the continued support and welcome all associated with this great organisation to their race day.

Associated sponsor, John Oxley Motors are also acknowledged for getting right behind the success of the card and favourable weather conditions is hoped to ensure a great day of thoroughbred action with full betting service available on all the stellar race meetings from Rosehill and around the country.

All are reminded that Port Macquarie Tradies Race Day is set to provide an outstanding program of racing action on Friday 11 April with all tradies admitted free and details regarding general admission tickets together with reserved seating in the Ivan Livermore Stand are available by contacting the Port Macquarie Race Club office on 02 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au.
