Doscover the toe-tapping energy of Flamenco when award-winning dancer Annalouise Paul and some of Australia’s finest musicians bring Flamenco for Everybody to Regional NSW.
This red-hot, live performance features poetry, percussion, Flamenco guitar, contemporary and flamenco dance and storytelling in this spectacular, passionate and highly virtuosic show that comes to Western Riverina from March 3-14 and Outback NSW from April 1-12.
Outstanding performers include Flamenco veteran Robbie Varga on guitar; Ana Otero dancing and singing original cantes, flamenco poetry, Cristhian Valencia virtuoso world percussion, ambient music and afro-Colombian grooves; plus ‘palmera’ – Elena Salerna with flamenco’s distinctive hand-clapping.
The spirit of music and dance uplifts and heals. After a horror run of Covid-19, harsh drought and bushfires, unemployment and isolation, Flamenco for Everybody shares a collective experience of resilience with regional communities with a show that is itself the product of the power of heart and soul over adversity.
During imposed lockdowns, Annalouise Paul was determined to dance. She found an outdoor community verandah and local wharf to practice on for the entire year. She met walkers, boaties, dogs and children and one little boy on a scooter who asked, “Are you making a show? For everybody?” And a few months later the show was born.
Flamenco for Everybody is an exhilarating live performance of Flamenco and contemporary dance, languid guitar, Spanish poetry and high-energy percussion seamlessly woven into compelling storytelling.
The show opens with Annalouise sharing her story using contemporary-Flamenco dance, sound design and video. This peaks into a full theatrical experience with sacred song and spoken word.
