2025 Gunning Show: A Community Tradition
The 2025 Gunning Show is just around the corner, with locals already preparing for what promises to be an exciting mix of tradition and fresh energy. The main event is on Sunday, 16 February, and the community is in for a weekend full of old favourites, exciting new attractions, and plenty of opportunities to catch up with friends and neighbours.
New President, Campbell Basnett, says this year’s Show is all about putting together a fun family day out and an opportunity to showcase what makes our district special.
“The Gunning Show has always been about bringing people together,” Campbell said. “It’s not just about the competitions or the displays – it’s the conversations, the laughs, and the connections that happen around the edges that make it special. This year, we’re staying true to that while adding a few things to keep it fresh.”
Fresh new Show Opening!
The weekend will kick off at 4pm on Saturday, 15 February, with the Showground coming alive with a live band, food stalls, and a bar. With free entry, it’s the perfect opportunity to start the weekend in a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
“It’s a fresh new take on the Show opening, and we’re really excited to see people come down, grab a bite, and enjoy the music,” Campbell said. “Bring a picnic rug for the family and settle in for a fun evening to remember!”
New features and old favourites
This year, the Show is welcoming back the camels, which were a huge hit last year with the kids and adults alike! For the first time, there’s also a woodchop competition, adding an exciting new element to the day.
“The woodchop is one of those things that’s as entertaining as it is impressive,” Campbell said. “It’s great to be introducing something new while keeping the traditional competitions people know and love.”
Kids activities are always at the heart of the Gunning Show, with a range of free activities to keep kids of all ages entertained throughout the day.
“We want the Show to be a place where families can enjoy themselves without worrying about costs,” Campbell said. “There’s plenty for the kids to do that’s fun and free – from seeing the animals, to the hands-on activities, and the treasure hunt.”
Gunning Show is one of a kind!
Whether it’s cheering on the dog handlers in the yard dog trials, watching the horse sporting events, patting an alpaca, watching a reptile show, or simply catching up with friends over a coffee or a cold beverage, there really is something for everyone.
The Gunning Show isn’t just another event – it’s a tradition that brings out the best of our community. Whether it’s the bragging rights on the line in the cooking section, the stiff competition in the flock ewe and fleece wool competitions, or the sheer joy of catching up with people you might only see once a year, the Show is truly one of a kind.
“There’s something special about the atmosphere at our Show—you can’t walk more than a few metres without stopping to chat with a friendly face,” Campbell said. “And if the weather is on our side, the Showground is a sight to behold!”.
The 2025 Gunning Show is an event not to miss, so mark your calendars and join us for a weekend of fun, food, and community pride.
“It’s more than just a day out, it’s a celebration of our people, our traditions, and the connections that make our community so strong,” Campbell concluded.
