The Walcha Show will be officially opened at 6.30pm Friday 8 March by Jason Strong, who was a Walcha ‘boy’ and until recently the CEO of Meat & Livestock Australia. Jason will be around on Friday to help with the junior judging and Saturday to award some of the livestock prizes, judge a few classes and generally enjoy our Show.

On both Friday and Saturday, we have the Berkley SuperTank Fishing Show. Come along and learn about the different types of lures used and how the fish react to them. The fishing shows will be run regularly between 10am and 5pm both days.

A big plus for our town and Show is the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation Skin Check Truck which will be on the showground both Friday and Saturday.

The Skin Check Truck is offering FREE skin checks, all you need to do is scan the QR code on the side of the truck, add a few details and wait until it is your turn.

The Skin Check Truck was only launched in June 2023, so we are very lucky to have this great service come to Walcha already.

Walcha Show Society is very grateful to the Walcha Town & Country Club and the Lions, Rotary and Quota Clubs of Walcha for their donations to assist the Show Society in the costs of bringing the truck to the 2024 Show.

On Friday night in front of the bar, we have the very popular dog jump which always draws a big crowd.

Another new one for the Show is a competitive Jousting Exhibition by Nova Hollandia, which will be held before the official opening of the Show.

There will also be Medieval workshops on Saturday for the young and young-at-heart.

Fireworks will light up the sky on Friday evening, on dark.

The Speed Shear competition will be held on Friday night and the Sports Shear on Saturday.

Now’s the time to finalise your list for pavilion entries, finish off your needlework, crocheting and quilting, make a shopping list for the baking.

Don’t forget the men’s cooking competition – this year’s feature cake is a Sultana cake.

Looking at the recipe this could test the blokes out.

The ladies feature cake is a rich fruit cake this year, all feature cakes must be cooked using the recipe provided in the schedule.

There is still time to make some jam and preserves if you are planning on entering them.

We hope the vegetable and product display will be in abundance and the display of woodwork projects will no doubt be just terrific, yet again.

The Walcha Show main pavilion is one of the best around and always commented on by visitors to the Show. So come drop in and have a look around, we have a fabulous fine arts and photography section.

Our flower pavilion is always a standout, with FABulous blooms and the headiest of fragrances!

Don’t forget kids to bring along your pets for the pet parade on Saturday morning at 10am, please note we have moved the pet parade to the cement area in front of the bar area, which will allow everyone to see the pets better as they parade along.

We will also have an Aviary Bird Show on display for the first time, this will be in the area near the main pavilion.

Livestock competitions are always a big draw to the show and I’m sure will be again this year. The feature breed for the cattle section is Limousin.

Merino Flock Ewe Competition awards will be presented on Friday evening.

Cattle dog challenge begins Saturday afternoon with the final starting at 6.30pm. This will be a great event to sit back and watch, the skills of the dogs and handlers are something else. Yard dog trials will also run throughout the day on Saturday.

Saturday will also see the motorbike competitions running during the day, commencing at 9am. The favourite of many being the Demolition Derby will once again take place at 5pm on Saturday.

All the while horse competitions are running in the ring, with plenty to watch.
