Street upgrade restarts

Recent stories

After a number of delays caused by bad weather and unforseen impediments, work re-commenced on the Corryong streetscape project yesterday.

“We’ve successfully resolved key issues concerning electrical conduits and verandah post footings for the upgrade and work re-started on Wednesday,” said project manager, Vilfred Correa.

“The main reason for the recent delay was due to the condition of the verandah post footings. It became apparent that they were severely deteriorated when they were exposed during the demolition process and additional design and costing work was needed.

“During the conduit installation process, we anticipate that businesses in Stage 1 will not have access through the front of their shops for a period of up to two days.

“We understand that this will cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely apologise for any disruptions.

“We acknowledge the impact these setbacks have had on our initial timeline, particularly concerning our plans to pause work during the Christmas period,” Mr Correa added.

“Our top priority is to ensure a seamless and organised site for the Christmas period. We’re currently evaluating the specific tasks we aim to complete between now and December 15.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to deliver a vibrant and improved streetscape for Corryong.

In other council news, the Corryong community will be celebrating a significant milestone in its bushfire recovery journey, with the official opening of Playles Hill this weekend.

“In the aftermath of the Black Summer fires our local residents displayed resilience, dedication, and unity,” said Towong mayor, Cr Andrew Whitehead.

“It is within this context that the idea for this project was born.

“Council has been proud to support the Playles Hill Working Group in a shared mission to transform the space into a beautiful yet functional botanical park. It now offers diverse amenities like walking and mountain bike trails, informative signage, and visitor facilities.

“As we officially open this incredible space we hope it serves as a place for reflection, reconnection, and rejuvenation for our community and visitors for many years to come,” Cr Whitehead added.
