Tree Day planting a success

Recent stories

Narrandera Landcare had a rewarding National Tree Day planting morning at The Wetlands on Sunday when more than 40 volunteers helped plant the seedlings the group’s volunteers started propagating late last year.

Narrandera Landcare’s Activity Manager Glenn Currie said: “Weather-wise Sunday morning was fairly ordinary, very overcast with rain predicted later on in the day. We weren’t expecting many people but they came anyway.

Our members and volunteers were especially heartened by the parents who brought their young children along on such a dreary day. The kids seemed to have a good time planting, mulching and exploring the wet-lands.”

Over 600 seedlings were planted on the morning, adding to the 150 local schools had already planted this year.

“Everything we planted will add to the biodiversity of the wetlands and with the rainfall forecasted for later this week they should get off to a great start. We’ll have another school group joining us later in August and Kurrajong have plans to help us plant as well,” Glenn said.

“Our group would like to thank everyone who came along on the day or helped in the propagation and preparation, Leeton Toyota for their tremendous support and Peter Cirillo of Narrandera Pizzeria who donated so many pizzas to feed our volunteers afterwards! It was great being able to reward our volunteers with lunch for their efforts.”

Leeton Toyota has been involved in National Tree Day for over 10 years with unique planting projects within the local community each year. And with over 20 years of support for National Tree Day, Toyota Australia has made an invaluable contribution to the planting of 26 million native trees shrubs and grasses by millions of children and adults across Australia.

“As global leaders in environmental research and technologies, we strive to create a more sustainable future for the benefit of communities around the world. Part of that includes the development of next-generation Hybrid vehicles and the positive contributions they make to a low-carbon society, said a Toyota Australia spokesperson.
